titleOfInvention Process for improving illuminating oils
abstract The burning properties of illuminating oils are improved by separating the oil into a high and a low boiling fraction, extracting the high boiling fraction with a selective solvent for unsaturated and aromatic hydrocarbons, and combining the raffinate thereof with the unextracted low boiling fraction. The low boiling fraction and the final product may be treated with an adsorbent earth such as bauxite, or with sulphuric acid. In an example, an illuminating oil is separated into two fractions one boiling above and the other below 215 DEG C. The high boiling fraction is extracted with sulphur dioxide, and the raffinate combined with the low boiling fraction.
