titleOfInvention | Manufacture of chromable dyestuffs of the triarylmethane series |
abstract | Triarylmethane dyestuffs are obtained by condensing (a) 1 mol weight of 3- or 5-hydroxybenzene-1 : 2 : 4-tricarboxylic acid or the anhydride thereof with 2 mol. weights of an N-substituted m-amino-phenol, or (b) 1 mol. weight of an N-substituted (m-aminohydroxybenzoy)carboxyhydroxybenzoic acid, obtainable from 3- or 5-hydroxybenzene-1 : 2 : 4-tricarboxylic acid and an N-substituted-m-aminophenol, with 1 mol. weight of an N-substituted m-aminophenol or with 1 mol. weight of resorcylic acid. In examples: (1) 5-hydroxytrimellitic anhydride is condensed with m - diethylaminophenol, m - dimethylaminophenol, 3 - ethylamino - 4 - methylphenol, m - piperidylphenol (obtained from resorcinol and piperidine), m-ethylaminophenol, sodium diethylamino - m - phenol - w : w<1> - disulphonate, 3 - (ethylsulphoethylamino) - 4 - methylphenol (obtained from m - ethylamino - p - cresol and sodium chlorethanesulphonate), 3 - hydroxydiphenylamine, m-methylaminophenol, sodium m - methylethylaminophenol - w - sulphonate, m - dihydroxyethylaminophenol and with N-(3 - hydroxyphenyl)morpholine : (2) 2 - (4<1> - dimethyl or ethyl amino-2<1>-hydroxy)benzoylhydroxycarboxy-1-benzoic acid is condensed with b -resorcylic acid, 2 : 3-dimethyl-3<1>-hydroxydiphenylamine (obtained from o-xylidine and resorcinol), 3-ethylamino p-cresol and with sodium diethylamino-m-phenol-w : w<1>-disulphonate : (3) 3-hydroxytrimellitic anhydride, obtainable by brominating pseudo cumene-5-sulphonic acid, removing the sulpho group, oxidizing the product and replacing the bromine atom by the hydroxy group, is condensed with m-dimethyl or diethylaminophenol. The dyestuffs give red to bluish red shades, and may be sulphonated or chromed. Dyeing wool and chrome printing on cotton and artificial silk (other than acetate artificial silk) are referred to. |
