titleOfInvention Improvements relating to anaesthetics
abstract Anaesthetic solutions are prepared by dissolving in water an anaesthetic of the class of the aminobenzoic acid alkamine esters, such as the hydrochloride of para-aminobenzoic acid diethylamino ethyl ester, together with all the salts occurring in blood, viz.: chloride and sulphate of potassium, chloride and bicarbonate of sodium, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and secondary sodium phosphate. It is stated that stable solutions are obtained which do not deposit insoluble calcium salts, and that if the various salts are first dissolved and form a deposit this will redissolve on addition of the anaesthetic. Other ingredients which may be added are vasoconstrictors, such as dihydroxyphenyl-ethanolmethylamine, 3 : 4-dihydroxyphenyl-propanolamine, or 3 : 4-dihydroxyphenyl-a -ethanolamine, stabilizing agents, glucose, viscosity-increasing agents such as oxyethylmethyl-cellulose, and stearolic acid. The salts may be used in such proportions as to yield solutions that are isotonic with blood. Specifications 439,168 and 445,555 are referred to.
