titleOfInvention Polish
abstract A polishing-composition comprises a homogenized mixture of castor-oil, or a modified castor-oil, a mineral lubricating oil, water, an emulsifier and a thinner. The castor oil used may be raw, or may be modified by blowing, by nitration, by treatment with sulphur chloride, by hydrogenation, by condensation with organic acids or with phthalic anhydride, or by treatment at about 200 DEG C. with a small amount of phenol or cresol. The lubricating oil used is preferably of petroleum origin, and mineral spirits may be used as a thinner. Triethanolamine, caustic potash, gelatine, gum arabic, gum tragacanth, soaps, sulphated fatty alcohols and casein are specified as emulsifiers, and solvents such as ethyl, butyl or amyl lactate, furfural, furfuryl alcohol, methoxyethylphthalate, ethoxyethylphthalate, diacetin, triacetin, glyceryl tribenzoate, butyl, amyl, hexyl, heptyl and octyl alcohols, orthodichlorbenzene, paradichlorbenzene, tetra- and hexahydronaphthalene, solvent naphtha and pine oil, may be present. Other ingredients which may be added are red oil, a perfume such as oil of citronella substitute, and chinawood oil. A homogenizing pressure of 2,000 lb. per square inch, or more, may be used. According to an example, a polish consists of a homogenized mixture of blown castor oil, a mineral lubricating oil, water, caustic potash solution, mineral spirits, red oil orthodichlor-benzene, oil of citronella substitute, gelatine, gum arabic and gum tragacanth. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, no water or emulsifier need be present, and the castor oil may be dispersed in a semi-solid such as petrolatum. Further, the castor oil may be substituted by croton oil, by polymerized drying and semi-drying oils, by vegetable oils treated with sulphur chloride, by vegetable oils hydrogenated after polymerization and by phenol-aldehyde resins and polybasic acid-polyhydric alcohol resins made with or without fatty acid modification. Specified ingredients include Bakelite resins, glyceryl phthalate resins, a phthalic anhydride - ricinoleic acid resin, shellac, pontianac and sandarac and the mineral lubricating oil can be replaced by agar-agar or lecithin. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A polishing-composition comprises a homogenized mixture of castor oil, or a modified castor oil, a mineral lubricating oil, water, an emulsifier, and a thinner.
