titleOfInvention Manufacture of acid dyestuffs of the anthraquinone series
abstract Acid anthraquinone dyes are made by reacting 1-amino-4-halogenanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid with amino aralkyl-alkylsulphones (prepared for instance by treating a nitrobenzyl chloride with an alkylsulphinic acid and reducing the product). In examples sodium - 1 - amino - 4 - bromanthraquinone-2-sulphonate is condensed with o-, m- and p-aminobenzylmethylsulphone (prepared by condensing o-, m- and p-nitrobenzylchlorides respectively with sodium methylsulphinate and reducing), o-, m- and p-aminobenzylethylsulphones (the o- and p-derivatives are prepared by condensing o- and p-nitrobenzyl chlorides respectively with sodium ethylsulphinate) and o-aminobenzylpropylsulphone. Samples have been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of dyes prepared by condensing sodium 1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-sulphonate with (1) 1-(methyl sulphonyl)-2-(4<1>-aminophenyl) ethane (this is prepared by condensing 1-bromo-2-(4<1>-nitrophenyl)-ethane with sodium methyl sulphinate and reducing), (2) 3-amino-6-methoxybenzylmethylsulphone (similarly derived from 3-nitro-6-methoxybenzyl chloride). The products dye animal fibres blue shades. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises as examples the subject-matter of the samples schedule and in addition examples wherein sodium-1-amino-4-bromanthraquinone - 2 - sulphonate is condensed with (1-(ethylsulphonyl)-2-(4<1>-aminophenyl)-ethane, 3-amino - 4 - methoxybenzylmethylsulphone (similarly derived from 3-nitro-4-methoxybenzyl chloride), and 3-amino-6-methoxybenzylethylsulphone (similarly derived from 3-nitro-6-methoxybenzyl chloride). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
