titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of condensation products |
abstract | Resinous condensation products are prepared by reacting diazines or 1 : 3 : 5-triazines containing at least two amino groups with lower aliphatic monoaldehydes, their polymerization products, or compounds which give off such aldehydes. Suitable azines include melamine, trimethylmelamine, melam, melem, mellon, 1 : 4-diaminophthalazine, 4 : 6-diaminopyrimidine, 2-phenyl-4 : 6-diaminopyrimidine, 2 : 4 : 6-triaminopyrimidine, 2 : 4-diaminoquinazoline, 4 : 6 - diaminoquinazoline, 2 - methyl - 3 - 6-diaminoquinoxaline, and 2-phenyl-4 : 6-diamino triazine. Suitable aldehydes include formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein and suitable aldehyde - yielding substances include hexamethylenetetramine and dimethylolurea. Accelerating or retarding agents such as alkalis, dehydrating substances, zinc chloride, or diluents such as alcohols and dioxane may also be present. Mixtures of the azines with or without the addition of other substances that condense with aldehydes such as urea, guanidine and dicyandiamide may be used. The products with or without the addition of fillers or colouring matters such as asbestos, mica, or wood meal may be used in the manufacture of adhesives, plastic masses, films, artificial substances, masses for pressing and insulting substances. In examples: (1) melamine is condensed with formaldehyde or paraformaldehyde in the presence of alcohol; (2) the residue obtained after washing with caustic soda solution a product obtained by heating ammonium thiocyanate is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of caustic soda; (4) melamine is condensed with acetaldehyde in the presence of water; (5) a mixture of melamine and urea or guanidine carbonate is condensed with formaldehyde; (6) 2 : 4-diaminoquinazoline is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of hydrochloric acid; (8) a mixture of 2 : 4-diaminoquinazoline and dicyandiamide is condensed with formaldehyde; (9) melamine is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of ethylene glycol. |
