titleOfInvention | Process for the manufacture of fashioned articles from fabrics containing artificial filaments, threads, straws and the like |
abstract | Three dimensional fashioned articles of wearing-apparel, e.g brassieres, suspensories, hat shapes, caps, girdles, and surgical slings, are made by fashioning fabrics of thermoplastic derivatives of cellulose by distortion of the yarns of the fabrics under such conditions that they are rendered at least partially plastic, and thereafter stitching the articles so as to fix the shape in the articles. The fashioning may take place before or after the articles are cut from the length of fabric. The yarns are rendered plastic by heat treatment, if desired in the presence of water or steam, the necessary temperature being lower when water or steam is used. Plasticizers may also be present. The fashioned article may be stiffened by using such high temperatures during the fashioning as to cause coalescence of the yarns, or there may be applied to the fabric a solvent, a solution of a cellulose derivative, or sizes such as dammar resin, copal resin, elemi resin, or gelatine. The stitching may comprise only hemming, taping, or sewing on of decorations in the case of small articles. |
