titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to net-making machines
abstract 437,827. Net-making machines. ROMANOV, M. R., 34, Kankrin Street, Rostov-on-the- Don, U.S.S.R. May 28, 1934, No. 15810. [Class 74 (i)] A net-making machine employing " sewing needle " type needles 33 permitting of moving the needle carrier across the shuttles, has, for handling the threads from the shuttle spools, a row of rods 20 formed at their ends with mutually perpendicular grooves, and adapted to rotate, and move periodically over the slots of the shuttle races. Each rod is advanced axially by a cam 26 to take the thread in the shallower of the two grooves, and is then rotated axially through 270‹ to form an overturned loop. The needle carrying the upper thread then passes through the deeper groove and the rod returns to its initial position, throwing off the knot formed which is finally tightened by a bar 49. The rod is rotated by a sine-shaped cam slot in a cam 29 (not shown), through a lever, and rack-and-pinion 21. During each revolution of the machine a cross-bar 32 carrying the needles is reciprocated vertically by a cam 34, and is displaced axially of the shuttles a distance equal to the shuttle pitch. The shuttle 2 is seated in a two-part receptacle 3 in which it is reciprocated by a rocker 4 actuated by the shaft 10 through a slide 9 and toothed segment 7. After unscrewing the screw 15 the receptacle 3 may be opened, and the shuttle removed. The upper thread is fed by three iron rolls 38 provided with triangular grooves, and a wooden roll 39, around which it makes a complete turn. A pressing piece 41 having a soft rubber lining 42, is actuated by cams on shaft 44, to check the thread when necessary. A thread guide 40 is depressed by cams 43 on shaft 44 when the upper thread is to be withdrawn. The net is advanced by rollers 47, 48 having needles at their ends to guide the edges of the net and three rollers 50, 51, 52, coupled by gearwheels. A brace piece 54 is reciprocated by a cam 63, through a bar 56, and a bell-crank lever 58 carrying a sleeve 57, adjustable along it. The brace piece drives the rollers through ratchets 55 and ratchet wheel 53.
