titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the coating of articles with rubber
abstract Coating-compositions for rubber may comprise chlorinated rubber, cellulose ethers, isomerized rubber, or synthetic or natural resins, which may be applied in suspension in water or in solution or suspension in organic solvents. Softening and filling agents and pigments may be added. The examples describe solutions of chlorinated rubber in mixtures of toluene and xylene, these compositions also containing (1) a sulphur-toluene or sulphur-xylene compound and iron oxide or titanium dioxide, (2) and (3) chlorinated diphenyl.ALSO:A layer of a vulcanizable rubber mix applied to an article such as a tube or vessel is coated with a layer of an organic non-vulcanizable strongly adherent water-impermeable film-forming material, and the rubber is then vulcanized by means of hot water or hot aqueous solutions of inorganic salts. The film-forming material may be a lacquer prepared from natural or synthetic resins, e.g. shellac, copal, polystyrene, polyvinylchloride, condensation products from polybasic acids and polyhydric alcohols, or from phenolic bodies or urea with aldehydes, or elastic oil lacquers, or a lacquer containing chlorinated rubber, cellulose ethers, or izomerized rubber. Softening and filling agents and pigments may be added. The film-forming material may be applied as solutions in organic solvents or suspensions in water or organic solvents. The coatings on the rubber may or may not be removed after vulcanization. The examples describe solutions of chlorinated rubber in toluene and xylene, these compositions also containing (1) a sulphur-toluene or sulphur-xylene compound and iron oxide or titanium dioxide, (2) and (3), chlorinated diphenyl.
