titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of water soluble organic sulpho compounds |
abstract | Sulphonated products stated to be wetting, washing, dispersing and emulsifying agents are obtained by sulphonating at between - 5 and + 30 DEG C. unsaturated fatty alcohols having an iodine value of at least 100, or a mixture of unsaturated fatty alcohols with other unsaturated fatty compounds such as fatty acids or their esters, provided that the mean iodine value of the mixture is at least 100. In examples: (1) the fatty alcohols obtained by the reduction of herring oil or a mixture thereof with oleic alcohol and small quantities of cetyl and stearyl alcohols is sulphonated with sulphuric acid; (2) a mixture of fatty alcohols having an iodine value of 135 with oleic alcohol is sulphonated with chlorsulphonic acid. The products may be dried and incorporated with other soap-like materials or dyes, fillers or perfumes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the sulphonation of mixtures of unsaturated alcohols having iodine values below 100. In additional examples, mixtures of oleic alcohol with ricinoleic alcohol or castor oil are sulphonated. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Sulphonated products stated to be dispersing and emulsifying agents are obtained by sulphonating at between -5 and +30 DEG C. unsaturated fatty alcohols having an iodine value of at least 100, or a mixture of unsaturated fatty alcohols with other unsaturated fatty compounds such as fatty acids or their esters, provided that the mean iodine value of the mixture is at least 100.
