titleOfInvention The manufacture of heavy metal complex compounds of mercapto pyrimidines
abstract Neutral, water-soluble complex compounds of mercaptopyrimidines containing a group capable of forming neutral salts with heavy metals, are obtained by treating such a mercaptopyrimidine compound containing a basic or acidic group with the salt of a metal of specific gravity greater than 5, and neutralizing the reaction mixture if necessary, those with an acid group being neutralized with an alkali, alkaline earth metal or amine, and those with a basic group, with a mineral acid or acetic, lactic or citric acid. Internal salts may be formed as in silver-diethylaminoethyl-thiobarbituric acid between the adjacent amino and carboxylic groups. The metal is probably attached to the thio group. The products are useful in the treatment of infectious diseases. Specification 234,772, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to. According to examples, thiobarbituryl acetic acid dissolved with aqueous alkali is converted into its gold compound with gold potassium chloride, its silver compound with silver nitrate and its copper compound with copper chloride hydrate; N - phenyl - diethylamino-ethyl - thiobarbituric acid dissolved in aqueous alkali is converted into its silver compound with silver nitrate; the corresponding N-allyl, N-phenoxyphenyl, N-allyl - diethylamino - methyl and N-methyldiisoamylaminoethyl-compounds are similarly converted to silver compounds; diallylaminoethylthiobarbituric acid is converted to a silver compound; diethylaminoethylthiobarbituric acid is converted into a gold compound a copper compound, a silver compound and a mercury compound; methylthiouracil acetic acid and thiouracil carboxylic acid are converted into silver compounds; thiobarbituryl acetic amide is converted into a copper compound, the amide group being hydrolyzed. The products are precipitated by neutralization as described above. Samples of the mercury-diethylaminoethyl thiobarbituric acid and the silver thiouracilcarboxylic acid have been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of the Acts. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to a copper compound of aminohydroxythiobarbituric acid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
