titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the separation of minerals by flotation |
abstract | Soapstone is separated from a gangue consisting of magnesite and small amounts of iron oxide, aluminium oxide, and other silicates by a flotation process in which the soapstone is obtained as the floating concentrate. Small amounts of magnesite accompanying the soapstone in the concentrate may be removed by solution in acid.ALSO:Soapstone is separated as a floating concentrate from a gangue consisting of non-siliceous material with or without other siliceous material by treating the mixture with a fatty acid, a metallic salt of a fatty acid, or a mixture of a fatty acid and a metallic salt of a fatty acid, with or without a frothing agent. In treating a mixture of soapstone and magnesite containing also small amounts of iron oxide, aluminium oxide, and other silicates, the ore is floated with a mixture of oleic acid and lead nitrate, which react to produce lead oleate, and terpineol. Oleic acid or lead oleate may be used instead of the mixture of lead nitrate and oleic acid. The small amount of magnesite accompanying the soapstone in the concentrate may be removed by solution in acid. |
