titleOfInvention | Improvements in the manufacture of artificial products from viscose |
abstract | Artificial products such as artificial silk, horse hair, ribbons, capsules, or sheets are prepared from viscose by spinning or coagulating these products in an acid salt solution, the viscose containing one or more separately prepared xanthates of aromatic, hydroaromatic, cyclic or heterocyclic alcohols. Suitable alcohols are borneol, menthol, fenchyl alcohol, furfuryl alcohol, naphthene alcohol, decahydronaphthol, methylcyclohexanol, hexahydroisothymol, phenyl ethyl alcohol or phenyl propyl alcohol. In an example, to viscose containing 7\ba1/2\be--8 per cent of cellulose, and 6\ba1/2\be--7 per cent of alkali, and having a common salt number of 7\ba1/2\be--8 is added 0,2 per cent of the sodium xanthate of phenyl ethyl alcohol, and the solution is spun into a bath containing 29 per cent of Na2SO4, 13 per cent of H2SO1 and a small amount of ZnSO4 according to the spinning conditions. In another example, 0,25 per cent of fenchyl xanthate is added to a viscose, having a high degree of viscosity prepared from unripened alkali cellulose, and containing 6--6\ba1/2\be per cent of cellulose and 6\ba1/2\be per cent of alkali, and the solution is spun into a bath containing 27 per cent Na2SO4, 3 per cent of ZnSO4, and 11 per cent of H2SO4. A third example describes the preparation of silk from viscose to which borneol xanthate has been added, and a fourth example describes the preparation of sheets from a viscose containing borneol xanthate. Products obtained by the process of this invention are said to be glossy and clear. Specification 365,982 is referred to. |
