titleOfInvention | Improvements in the production of ferro-cobalt |
abstract | 416,158. Electrodeposition of ferro - cobalt. BOSQUI, F. L., N'Kana, Northern Rhodesia, and RHOKANA CORPORATION, Ltd., 13, Austin Friars, London. June 22, 1933, No. 17792. Drawings to Specification. [Class 41.] A commercially pure alloy of iron and cobalt is obtained electrolytically from suitable copper slags, by employing as anode an alloy or mixture containing not more than 15 per cent of copper, and an electrolyte containing less than three grams of free acid, reckoned as sulphuric, per litre (preferably 1-2), and'a copper content which does not exceed 0À05 grams per litre. The ferro-cobalt is deposited on the cathode and the bulk of the copper is deposited in the cell as sludge. The copper content of the electrolyte may be controlled by withdrawing a portion of it, preferably continuously, removing the copper, e.g. by cementation on scrap iron or cobalt, and returning it to the cell. In the case of mixtures containing more than 15 per cent of copper, the process may be repeated, using the cathode deposit of one stage as the anode of the next. |
