titleOfInvention | Manufacture of chlorinated arylenethiazoles |
abstract | Chlorinated 2-arylaminoarylenethiazoles are prepared by treating a diarylthiocarbamide having at least one free o-position or a 2-arylaminoarylenethiazole with chlorinating agents in the presence or absence of a carrier and for a suspending medium. Suitable media are nitrobenzene, nitrotoluene, acetic acid, ethylenedichloride, liquid sulphur dioxide, or chlorbenzenes, and carriers are iron or iodine; reaction may be performed under pressure. In examples: (1) 2 - o - toluidino - 4 - methylbenzthiazole is treated in nitrobenzene with sulphuryl chloride or with chlorine to give 2 - (5<1> - chloro - o - toluidino) - 4 - methyl - 6 - chlorbenzthiazole : (2) di-o-tolylthiocarbamide is treated with chlorine in o-dichlorbenzene or nitrobenzene to give the same product as in (1) ; (3) thiocarbanilide is chlorinated in nitrobenzene to give 2-(2<1>-4<1>-dichloranilino)-6-chlorbenzthiazole, similar treatment of p-chlordiphenylthiocarbamide gives 2-(2<1>.4<1>-dichloranilino) - benzthiazole : 4) di - o - anisylthiocarbamide on chlorination in o-dichlorbenzene gives 2 - (chloro - o - anisidino) - chloro - 4 - methoxybenzthiazole. |
