titleOfInvention Manufacture of vat-dyestuffs
abstract Vat-dyes are prepared by alkali fusion of a compound obtainable by condensing an aceanthrenequinone with an aromatic, aliphatic or alicyclic 1.2-diamino compound and which may be represented by the formula:-- <PICT:0404867/IV/1> wherein R stands for the aromatic, aliphatic or alicyclic residue of the 1.2-diamino radicle. The products, which are of unknown constitution, may be halogenated. In examples: (1) the condensation product of aceanthrenequinone with 1.2-diaminobenzene is fused with alcoholic potash to give a green vat dye; (2) the condensation product of aceanthrenequinone with 2-chloro-4.5-diaminotoluene (probably a mixture of isomers) is similarly fused to give a green vat dye; (3) the alkali fusion of the condensation product of aceanthrenequinone with ethylenediamine gives a green dye; (4) the alkali fusion of the condensation product of aceanthrenequinone and 1-methyl-3.4-diaminobenzene gives a green dye, and similarly also the condensation products of aceanthrenequinone with 1.2-diaminonaphthalene and with 2.3-diaminofluorenone; (5) the condensation product of methylaceanthrenequinone (obtainable from 2-methylanthracene and oxalyl chloride) and 1.2-diaminobenzene on alkali fusion yields a green dye; (6) the product of (1) above is brominated in nitrobenzene; it dyes green tints.
