abstract Rubber latex or a rubber dispersion is compounded with an alkyd resin in alkaline solution or dispersion. Vulcanizing agents and, if desired, other compounding and filling ingredients, may be incorporated. Where an ammoniacal or alkaline solution of the resin is employed, the mixture is coagulated, washed and dried. Examples are given in which the following resins are employed:-glycerol-phthalate; glycerol-phthalate, modified with vegetable oils and/or their fatty acids; glycerol-phthalate-ethylene glycol-succinic or adipic acid; glycerine-adipic acid; linseed oil-glycerine-succinic acid; phthalic anhydride-ethylene glycol. The product is resistant to mineral oils and hydrocarbons, and is useful for gaskets, oil-proof cloth, gasoline gauze diaphragms, wire coatings, &c. Specifications 9985/13, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], 356,738, 358,095, [both in Group IV], 365,140, and 381,225 are referred to.
