titleOfInvention | Improvements in and relating to dyes and dyeing |
abstract | Azo dyes; azo dyes, forming on the material.--1-Aryldiazosulphonates of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic arylides are produced by coupling 1-sulpho-2 : 3-oxynaphthoic arylides with diazo compounds in acid or neutral solution. On cautious treatment with alkali, preferably sodium carbonate, the products yield alkali salts of 1-sulpho-1-arylazo-b -naphthaquinone-3-carboxyarylides, which are converted into the corresponding azo-derivatives of the 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic arylides on treatment with acid, the sulpho group being eliminated. The conversion into the azo dyestuff may be effected on the fibre, in conjunction with enolic sulphuric esters of vat dyes or other quinones, or with the dyes described in Specification 333,506, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], if desired. In examples (1) 5-nitro-2-aminoanisol is diazotized, coupled with sodium-2 : 3-oxynaphthoicanilide-1-sulphonate, and the product suspended in water and treated with sodium carbonate, and (2) wool is dyed in a bath made by dissolving the product of example (1) in water, the bath being acidified with sulphuric acid, after the absorption of the dyestuff, to precipitate the insoluble azo dyestuff on the fibre. |
