titleOfInvention | Process of preparing a physiological compound of gastric mucin, and physiological mucin preparation produced thereby |
abstract | Gastric mucin, suitable for preparations for internal use, is obtained by extracting stomach linings, preferably of hogs, with aqueous acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid, filtering, adjusting the acidity to the isoelectric point of the mucin and precipitating the mucin by the addition of a water soluble organic liquid such as alcohol or acetone. The precipitate is treated with a compound such as sodium carbonate or bicarbonate in aqueous suspension to form a mucin salt which is separated by decanting and draining and is then dried. The potassium and lithium compounds may also be prepared in a similar manner. The substances are stated to be efficacious in the treatment of acidity of the stomach.ALSO:Gastric mucin, suitable for preparations for internal use, is obtained by extracting stomach linings, preferably of hogs, with aqueous acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid, filtering, adjusting the acidity to the isoelectric point of the mucin and precipitating the mucin by the addition of a water soluble organic liquid such as alcohol or acetone.
