titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of acetic anhydride
abstract The production of acetic anhydride from acetic acid vapour by passing it over electrically heated phosphatic catalysts as described in the parent Specification, is varied by using phosphatic catalysts which are wholly or in part metal phosphates other than alkali metal phosphates. These phosphates may be used in admixture with one another or in small or large proportions, with alkali metal phosphates or pseudo-phosphates such as boron phosphate. These catalysts have higher electric resistance. The following specific catalysts are mentioned: sodium lithium metaphosphate with 30 per cent boron phosphate and 5 per cent ferric phosphate; lead metaphosphate; zinc phosphate; and 1 part of boron phosphate with 4 parts of lead metaphosphate. The specific resistance of these catalysts varies from 5,8 to 33 as compared with 2,1 to 4,6 for the catalysts mentioned in the parent Specification.
