titleOfInvention Wetting and penetrating agents and process for utilizing the same
abstract Mixtures of sulphonated polynuclear hydrocarbons and terpene alcohols are used as wetting agents in dyeing, washing, carbonizing, softening, fulling, desizing, and dressing textile materials. As terpene alcohols, a -terpineol, liquid terpineol, para-menthanol, and fenchyl alcohol are specified. In examples (1) cotton is wetted in a bath containing liquid terpineol or para-menthanol and the sodium salt of abietene sulphonic acid (made by sulphonating abietene with monohydrate and neutralizing with caustic soda) or sodium isopropylnaphthalene sulphonate, and dyed with Anthrene Violet BNX; strong, even dyeings are obtained, (2) wool is wetted in an aqueous bath containing abietene sulphonic acid and liquid terpineol, and (3) cotton is dyed with Anthrene Violet BNX in a vat to which liquid terpineol and the sodium salt of abietene sulphonic acid have been added.
