titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of rubber and similar material
abstract The process of the parent Specification for producing articles of microporous rubber from aqueous dispersions of emulsions which contain no electrolytes that produce gelling in the cold or on the application of heat, is modified by first subjecting the dispersion to the action of an electric current using reactive anodes so that creamy or paste like deposits are formed which still remain reversible and contain a sufficient quantity of reactive ions derived from the anodes, then coagulating or gelling the dispersion by the application of heat and vulcanizing under pressure in known manner. In an example, a micro-porous ebonite is prepared from a mix concentrated by electrodeposition using zinc anodes and a current density of 0,6 amperes per square decimetre. The cream is removed from the anodes and vulcanized under pressure at 150 DEG C. Concentrates obtained according to Specifications 219,635 and 290,313, [both in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], may be used. The conditions necessary for obtaining the reversible paste or cream as distinct from a coagulated deposit are the presence of a stabilizer such as casein, a low current density and a low conductivity. The Provisional Specification refers to the production of unconcentrated heat-sensitive products by the passage of electric current.
