titleOfInvention Manufacture of plastic masses
abstract Plastic masses suitable, inter alia, as coating compositions, are prepared from the triesters, mixed triesters and ether-esters of cellulose derived from the lower fatty acids, by kneading or rolling them, in the absence of a solvent, with such a liquid or mixed liquids which exert, when warm, a swelling action, but no appreciable solvent action. Softening agents, resins, dyestuffs and filling materials may also be present. Oilcloth, leathercloth, artificial leather, varnishes and the like may be prepared therefrom. In a typical example 100 parts cellulose-acetate-butyrate, 200 parts polystyrol resin, 100 parts p-toluenesulphamide, 300 parts Kieselguhr and 100 parts chlorobenzene are homogenized at 110-120 DEG C. in a kneading apparatus and made into oilcloth or the like by rolling on to a cloth web. In other examples tubes, spinning spools, combs and p plastic masses are made, using as the cellulose derivative and liquid respectively (1) cellulose-acetatebutyrate and chlorobenzene, (2) hydroxycellulose-acetate and benzene and ethanol, (3) hydroxy-cellulose acetate and ethanol, (4) cellulose-tripropionate and chloro-toluene, (5) cellulose acetate butyrate and chlorobenzene.
