titleOfInvention Electromagnetic relay arrangement for indicating temperature
abstract 364,140. Temperature alarms. ALLM€NNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET, Võsteras, Sweden. Sept. 2, 1930. No. 26178. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1929. [Class 47 (i).] A relay for use in an arrangement for indicating a predetermined temperature has two opposed windings 3, 4, Fig. 2, on the core 5, one of which is connected in parallel with a resistance 1, which is formed of material which varies in resistance with temperature change, and the other being in parallel with a resistance 2, which is independent of temperature change, the junction points of the windings and resistances being interconnected at 6 so as to form a bridge connection, as shown in Fig. 1. The coil 4 is arranged normally to predominate so that the pivoted armature 7 is held attracted, as shown, but when the ambient temperature rises the consequent rise in the value of the resistance 1 causes an equalization of the opposing forces of coils 3, 4. The armature 7 may, at the corresponding temperature, be held in the attracted position by the remanent magnetism in the coil 5, but on the slightest excess of temperature above this limit the consequent neutralization of the remanent magnetism allows the armature to be withdrawn by its spring 8, so breaking contact between springs 9 to produce a signal or the like. The relay armature may be restored by opening a push-button switch 10 in the circuit of coil 3, and the balance between the coils may be varied by an adjustment of the variable resistance 2.
