titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the manufacture of vulcanised rubber and the like
abstract The deterioration of rubber is retarded without discolouration, and without retarding the rate of cure, by treatment with a substance having the general formula Ho-Ar-X-Ar1-Y, in which Ar is a divalent residue of the benzene or naphthalene series, Ar1 is a residue of the benzene series, X is an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue which may carry alkyl or aryl hydrocarbon groups as substituents, and Y is hydrogen or hydroxyl. Substances specified are p hydroxy diphenyl methane, o hydroxy diphenyl methane, p, p1 dihydroxy, a , a diphenylethane, p, p1 dihydroxy diphenylmethane, p, p1 dihydroxy, b b diphenyl propane, 3, 31 dihydroxy diphenyl methane, 2, 41 dihydroxy diphenylmethane, m, m1 dihydroxy triphenylmethane, p, p1, p11 trihydroxy triphenylmethane. Examples are given showing the antiageing effect of several of these substances. Specifications 142,083 and 181,365, [both in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], are referred to.
