abstract | The ageing of rubber is improved by the use of a compound having the general formula HO-Ar-O-Ar1-Y in which Y is hydrogen or hydroxyl. These compounds do not affect the rate of cure, and cause no substantial discolouration on exposure to direct sunlight. Specified compounds include p-hydroxydiphenylether, p, p1-dihydroxydiphenyl ether, 2-21 dihydroxydiphenyl ether, 3-31 dihydroxydiphenyl ether, 2 hydroxydiphenyl ether, compounds comprising naphthyl groups, and also those having alkyl substituents in the aryl groups.
