titleOfInvention Manufacture of vat-dyestuffs
abstract A compound of the general formula: <PICT:0349361/IV/1> wherein the nucleus R may contain one or more substituents, is condensed with an isatin-a -derivative to give fast greenish-blue to green dyestuffs. The a -anthrone compounds of the above general formula are obtained by treating the reduction products of acylated-1.4-dihydroxyanthraquinones (prepared according to Specification 340,639) with an alcohol in the presence of a mineral acid. In examples: (1) 1-hydroxy-4-acetoxy-10-anthrone (prepared by reducing diacetylquinizarin in an acetic acid suspension with sodium hydrosulphite) is converted to the monomethylether of 1.4-dihydroxyanthrone by boiling with methanol and hydrochloric acid, and this ether is condensed with isatin-a -anilide; the corresponding monoethylether may be prepared by using ethylinstead of methyl alcohol and may similarly be condensed with isatin-a -anilide or with 5-chlorisatin-a -p-chloranilide: (2) 5-8-dichloro-1-hydroxy-4-acetoxy-10-anthrone (prepared by reducing diacetyl-5-8-dichlorquinizarin) is converted to a monomethyletherdichloro derivative by boiling with methanol and hydrochloric acid, and this derivative is condensed with isatin-a -anilide. It is also stated that the reduction products of 1-acetoxy- and 1.8-diacetoxyanthraquinone cannot be thus condensed with an isatin-a -derivative.
