titleOfInvention | Manufacture of odoriferous substances |
abstract | Cyclic acetals are manufactured by condensing dihydric alcohols with unsubstituted araliphatic aldehydes. The products comprise odoriferous substances. In examples, acetals are produced by p condensing: 1-oxo-2-phenylethane (phenylacetaldehyde) with 1 : 2-dihydroxyethane, 1 : 2-dihydroxypropane, 1 : 2-dihydroxybutane, 1 : 3-dihydroxybutane and 2 : 4-dihydroxy-4-methylpentane; 1-oxo-2-phenyl-2-methylethane (hydratropic aldehyde) with 1 : 2-dihydroxyethane and 2 : 4-dihydroxy-4-methylpentane; 1-oxo-3-phenylpropane with 1 : 2-dihydroxyethane and 2 : 4-dihydroxy-4-methylpentane; and 1-oxo-3-phenylpropen-2 (cinnamaldehyde) with 1 : 2-dihydroxyethane and 2 : 4 - dihydroxy - 4 - methylpentane. Gaseous hydrogen chloride is the condensing agent in each case. |
