titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to smoke generating apparatus and compositions therefor |
abstract | 343,023. Producing smoke screens. BOULANGER, C., 26, Rue Friant, Paris. Nov. 7, 1929, No. 33962. Convention date, Nov. 10, 1928. [Class 119.] An apparatus for generating a smoke screen comprises a container having a smoke emitting orifice 4 of restricted area surmounted by a deflecting plate or distributor 5 for directing the smoke along the ground. The container is charged with a main smoke producing composition 1, which may consist of 22 parts by weight of hexachlorobenzene, 4 parts of hexachloroethylene, 2 parts of carbon tetrachloride, 22 parts of hexachlorotoluene, 45 parts of powdered zinc, and 5 parts of sodium nitrate. An accelerating charge 2 may be added and may consist of 22 parts by weight of hexachlorobenzene, 4 parts of hexachloroethylene, 2 parts of carbon tetrachloride, 22 parts of hexachlorotoluene, 30 parts of powdered zinc, 9 parts of sodium nitrate, and 11 parts of calcium silicide. An auxiliary charge of liquid or solid substances capable of varying the speed of emission, quality, or colour of the smoke may be used instead of the accelerating charge; this auxiliary charge may consist of nitrophenols, nitrotoluols, nitrocresols, nitronaphthalenes, or nitrates of alkalies or of alkaline earths. The charges are ignited by a primer 3. |
