abstract Compositions for removing stains of copying inks or pencils, typewriter ribbons, and the like consist of a cellulose ether swollen in water, and one or more organic solvents. Soap with or without glycerine may be added. In examples, pastes are obtained by mixing (a) 100 lbs. of methyl cellulose containing 85 per cent of water, 40 lbs. of curd soap, and either 10 lbs. of glycerine and 60 lbs. of ethylene glycol ethyl ether or 15 lbs. of glycerine and 30 lbs. of benzyl alcohol; (b) 100 lbs. of cellulose glycollic acid ether containing 80 per cent of water, 40 lbs. of curd soap, 15 lbs. of glycerine, and 50 lbs. of cyclohexanone. Other solvents specified are methyl-cyclohexanone, ethylene glycol mono-phenyl ether, polyethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether, glycols, mono- or poly-hydric alcohols, ethers, esters, and ketones.
