titleOfInvention Method of producing photographs in colour
abstract 339,323. Triggs, W. W., (Multicolor Films, Inc.). June 4, 1929. Drawings to Specification. Toning; colour photography.-In a process for producing colour images, fixed silver images are treated with a basic dye bath and then with a uranium toning and mordauting bath. This treatment is used in a process for producing colour films having colour component images on opposite sides which are simultaneously printed in register from colour component negatives. The printed positive is developed, fixed, and washed, and that side bearing the images printed from the orangered negative is toned blue by application to that side only of an iron toning solution. The film is then passed through successive baths containing (1) water, (2) a basic red dye, (3) water, (4) a uranium toning and mordanting solution, (5) water, (6) hypo, (7) water, and is then passed through drying apparatus. The iron toning solution contains ferric ammonium oxalate, potassium ferricyanide, ammonium chloride, and hydrochloric acid. The basic dye bath is a mixture of two solutions of (a) basic magenta and acetic acid, and (b) auramine and acetic acid. This bath does not affect the blue image if the previous toning is carried to completion, but in conjunction with the following uranium bath gives the orange-red image. The uranium bath comprises potassium oxalate, uranium nitrate, hydrochloric acid and potassium ferricyanide. It clears the dye from the high lights, mordants the dye and also tones the silver image. The colour of the blue image may be modified by not completely toning the image blue so that it may be modified to a bluegreen or green colour by the successive dye and uranium baths.
