abstract 338,469. Mutual Chemical Co. of America, (Assignees of Tarr, O. F.). April 3, 1929, [Convention date]. Alkali chromates; sodium chromate.- In the production of alkali chromates such as sodium chromate by furnacing a mixture of chrome ore, a basic material such as lime, and an alkali carbonate such as soda ash, the amount of soda ash used is insufficient for the complete decomposition of the ore. The residue from the leaching is worked up in one. or more further treatments. enough soda ash being added in the final treatment to extract all the chromium remaining in the ore residue. The amount of lime added is sufficient to prevent fusion and the formation of appreciable amounts of alkali silicate and aluminate. A portion of the residue from the first or last leaching operation may be used as part of the refractory material in the first furnace mixtume.
