titleOfInvention Improvements in the manufacture and production of polymerisation products from diolefines
abstract 334,184. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustric Akt.-Ges.). May 25, 1929. Caoutchouc, synthetic.-In the polymerization of diolefines in presence of alkali or alkaline earth metals, a cyclic di-ether such as dioxane or its derivatives is added so as to cause the polymerization to begin quicky and proceed uniformly. In the examples butadiene is polymerized by sodium wire and by sodium dust in presence of dioxane in a rotary autoclave at 40- 65‹ C. The pressure does not appreciably increase. The process may be effected in the presence of solvents or diluents such as benzene, benzine, or ether.
