titleOfInvention Manufacture of vat dyestuffs of the dibenzopyrenequinone series
abstract 332,579. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March. 23, 1929. Divided on and addition to 308,617, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 25, 1929. Anthraquinone vat dyes.-Bromo-3:4:8:9- dibenzpyrene-5 : 10-quinones are used as starting materials in the process of the parent Specification. The products are vat dyes and may be converted into other vat dyes by treating them with acid condensing agents, such as sulphuric acid, chlorsulphonic acid, or aluminium chloride. In examples, (1) dibrom-3 : 4: 8: 9-dibenzpyrene- 5 : 10-quinone (made by brominating in the presence of chlorsulphonic acid and a catalyst, such as iodine or sulphur) is condensed with 1-aminoanthraquinone (2 mols.) in the presence of naphthalene, calcined sodium carbonate, and copper oxide, the product dyes vegetable fibres clear currant tints; similar dyestuffs may be obtained by using 1: 5-diamino- or 1-amino-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone instead of 1-aminoanthraquinone; (2) the product of example 1 is fused with aluminium chloride; the resulting dyestuff, which may be purified by treating with oxidizing agents, such as sodium hypochlorite, dye cotton in fast brown tints, while the corresponding dyestuff from 1: 5-diaminoanthraquinone, when similarly treated, yields a product dyeing in reddish-brown tints; and (3) the dibrom-3: 4 : 8 : 9-dibenzpyrene-5: 10-quinone of example 1 is condensed with 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-aldehyde (2 mols.) in nitrobenzene in the presence of sodium acetate and copper acetate; the product dyes cotton an intense reddish-brown tint: Specification 318,180 is referred to.
