titleOfInvention Improvement in mothproofing compositions
abstract 327,009. Ritter, R. M. Oct. 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Proofing against vermin; proofing-compositions.-A mothproofing composition contains an alkaloid or alkaloids extracted from seeds of Strychnos Nux Vomica or Strychnos Ignatii, or a salt or salts of such alkaloids, preferably in conjunction with saponins of quillaia, metal mordants, and phenyl salicylate. The composition is preferably used in the form of a solution in solvents such as carbon tetrachloride, benzene, naphtha, alcohol or acetone. Water may be used as a solvent if water soluble alkaloid salts such as brucine sulphate are used. In an example, materials are treated for 20 minutes at 100‹ F. with a 1 per cent water solution of 5 parts of brucine sulphate, 2 parts of saponin of quillaia and 3 parts of aluminium sulphate. A second example gives 4 parts of brucine sulphate, 1 part of saponin of quillaia and 2 parts of zinc sulphate. Materials may be treated in a 1¢ per cent carbon tetrachloride solution of 3 parts of brucine alkaloid and three parts of phenyl salicylate, or in a 1“ per cent solution in solvent naphtha of 4 parts of brucine oleate and 6 parts of phenyl salicylate.
