abstract | 319,043. Carpmael, A., (Schering-Kahlbaum Akt.-Ges.). June 14, 1928. Lactic acid esters are prepared by adding a mineral acid with cooling to a lactic acid salt and an alcohol, and after a period of standing heating the mixture to a temperature below the boiling- point of the alcohol, then neutralizing almost to completion, and finally heating to a higher temperature than before though still slightly below the boiling-point of the alcohol, cooling, completely neutralizing and isolating. An example is given of the preparation of ethyl lactate using magnesium lactate, ethyl alcohol and sulphuric acid. |
