titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to compositions of matter comprising derivatives of cellulose, and articles derived therefrom |
abstract | 317,457. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Moss, W. H., and White, B. B.). Aug. 16, 1928, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Adhesives.-Compositions for use in the manufacture of adhesives comprise a cellulose derivative and a sufficient proportion of a soluble and fusible synthetic resin to impart an increased tensile strength to the products, the amount of synthetic resin being from 1 to 25 per cent and preferably from 5 to 10 per cent of that of the cellulose, derivative. The cellulose derivatives which may be used include cellulose nitrates, organic esters of cellulose such as the formates, acetates, propionates, and butyrates, and cellulose ethers such as the methyl, ethyl, and benzyl ethers. Suitable synthetic resins are the soluble and fusible phenolformaldehyde resins, resins from diphenylolpropane and formaldehyde or acetone, phenol-furfural resins, and resins from benzene-, p-toluene, or xylene-sulphonamide and formaldehyde. The compositions may include also (1) natural gums or resins such as mamilla, acaroid resins, rosin, shellac, or ester gum; (2) known plasticizers such as diethyl phthalate, triphenyl or tricrersyl phosphate, monomethyl toluenesulphonamide, triacetin, diphenylolpropane, or thiocarbanilide; (3) medium and/or high-boiling solvents such as ethyl acetate or lactate, tetrachlorethane, benzyl alcohol, or diacetone alcohol; (4) low-boiing solvents such as acetone, ethyl alcohol, benzene, or ethylene dichloride; (5) fire-retardants such as bromotricresyl phosphate.; and (6) dyes or pigments, as desired. Examples are given. Specifications 317,454, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], and 317,456 are disclaimed. |
