Vacuum tubes; low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-Non-filamentary electrodes of lamps to which the supply voltage is applied directly are formed by sintering a mixture of one or more metals and one or more non-metallic substances having a high electronic emission. The metals may be commercial metals such as iron or nickel, or refractory metals such as tungsten or molybdenum, and the non-metallic substances may be one or more compounds, such as the oxides or silicates, of the alkali, alkaline earth, or rare earth metals, for example, thorium, cerium, lanthanum, and didymium. The filling may be a rare gas, a common gas, or mixtures of these with or without metallic vapour. Dimensions are given. |
