titleOfInvention Manufacture of new intermediates and azo-dyestuffs derived therefrom
abstract 311,194. Imray, O. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 4, 1928. Bis-(2<1> : 3<1>-oxynaphthoyl)-arylene-1: 4-diamines containing' in the arylido residue substituents in the 2 and 5 positions to the amino groups are obtained by condensing 2: 3-oxynaphthoic acid (2 mols.) with correspondingly substituted 1: 4- arylenediamines (see Specification 13237/13 and 23732/13). In an example, 2: 3-oxynaphthoic acid is condensed with 2 : 5-diamino-4-chloro-1- toluene and phosphorus trichloride in toluene suspension. Other diamines specified are 1: 4-dichloro-, 1: 4-dimethoxy-, 1: 4-dimethyl-, 4- chloro-1-methoxy- and 4-methoxy-1-methyl-2: 5- diaminobenzenes. Azo dyes; azo dyes, forming on the material.- Azo dyes fast to light are made either in substance, on a substratum or on the fibre by coupling a diazo-, tetrazo-, or diazoazo compound with the above-mentioned bis-(2<1> : 3<1>-oxynaphthoyl)- arylene-1 : 4-diamines. The following examples are specified :-(1) The dyestuff 2: 5-dichloroaniline (2 mols.) # bis-(2<1>-oxy-3<1>-naphthoyl)- 2: 5-diamino-4-chloro-1-anisole is prepared in substance. (2) The dyestuffs 4-chloro-2-anisidine # bis-(2<1>-oxy-3-naphthoyl) - 2: 5 - diamino - 4- chloro-1-toluene, 4-nitro-2-toluidine # bis-(2<1>- oxy-3<1>-naphthoyl)-2 : 5 - diamino - 4 - methoxy - 1- toluene and 5-nitro-2-anisidine # bis-(2<1>-oxy- 3<1>-naphthyol)-2: 5-diamino-4-chloro-1-anisole are produced on cotton by the usual process. A table is also given showing the shades produced by coupling the above mentioned bis-(2<1>-oxy-3<1>-naphthoyl)-arylenediamines with the diazo or tetrazo compounds of the following : 4-chloro-2-toluidine, 3-nitro-4-toluidine, o-aminoazotoluene, 5-nitro-2- toluidine, 3:5-dichloraniline, 4-nitro-3-chloraniline, 5-chloro-2-toluidine, 4-chloro-2-nitraniline, 3-chloraniline, 4-nitro-2.anisidine, m-xylidone, a-aminoanthraquinone 5-chloro-2-anisidine, dianisidine (1 mol.) and o-phenetole-azo-a-naphthylamine. 2:5- Diaminohydroquinonedimethylether required for the production of bis-(2<1>-oxy-3<1>-naphthoyl)-2 : 5-diamino-1 : 4 - dimethoxybenzene is made by reducing 5-nitro-2-aminohydroquinonedimethylether.
