titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the dyeing of fabric |
abstract | 305,922. Spectrum Dyes Proprietary, Ltd., (Assignees of Lloyd, G. F.). Feb. 11, 1928, [Convention date]. Bleaching, processes and materials for.-The colours of dyes fabrics are transformed by saturating the fabrics with a first solution obtained by treating sodium bisulphite solution with zinc, adding a second solution obtained from sodium bisulphite, zinc and the liquor resulting from the treatment of crude coal tar naphtha with dilute sulphuric acid, raising the temperature until the pre-selected colour, available within the range of transformation, appears, and finally arresting the transformation and fixing the colour by adding a suitable reagent, such as acetic acid or sodium bisulphate solution. With fabrics formed of cotton, cotton unions (with wool or silk), or silk, dyed with aniline dyes, the first treatment may be carried out by adding a solution of sodium bisulphite to a wooden vat containing a sheet of perforated zinc supporting the fabric. After treatment with the second solution and the addition of acetic acid or sodium bisulphate to arrest the transformation, the fabric, may be removed and washed with a solution of sodium bisulphate to fix the colour. Small quantities of dyestuffs may be added to the mixed solution to produce colours or shades not normally within the range of transformation. In examples, the colour of silk dyed with aniline black is changed to yellow, red or green by adding small quantities of Chlorazol fast yellow, Safranine, T, or Union pure blue BB to the second solution. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the transformation of the colours of dyed fabrics by the action of slowly-acting stripping solutions in general, and is not restricted to the use of the particular solutions referred to above. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
