abstract | 302,144. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., (Assignees of Clifford, A. M.). Dec. 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Acidylated aromatic amines: aryl-#-aminocrotonic acid derivatives.-The reaction product of an aromatic amine and an aliphatic acid, or ester of such acid, is added to rubber to improve its ageing qualities. The preparation of the following suitable compounds is described in the Specification; (1) form-naphthalide obtained as crystalline needles by mixing a- and #-naphthylamine with an excess of formic acid, heating under reflux for about half an hour, and pouring the molten mass into hot water ; (2) #-naphthylamino-acet-#-naphthalide obtained by the interaction of 1 mol. of monochloracetic acid and 2 mols. of #-naphthylamine, extraction with water, and recrystallization from aniline and alcohol; (3) naphthyl monoformamide of ethylene-diamine obtained by the action on naphthol of the reaction product from 1 mol. of formic acid and 1 mol. of ethylene diamine; (4) #-naphthalide of #- (#-naphthalide)crotonic acid obtained by heating 2 mols. of #-naphthylamine and 1 mol. of ethyl acetoacetate at 180 C.; (5) ethyl ester of #-(anaphthalido)crotonic acid obtained by heating 1 mol. of ethyl acetoacetate with 1 mol. of #-naphthylamine for ten hours on a water bath, or allowing the mixture to stand at room temperature for several days and then warming for 3-4 hours. |
