titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to coating compositions and articles coated therewith
abstract 301,497. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Moss, W. H.). Dec. 1, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Coating-compositions.-Naphthalene is used as a plasticiser in coating compositions comprising a cellulose derivative and a volatile solvent. The compositions may also contain other plasticizers such as diethyl phthalate, tricresyl, or triphenyl phosphate, triacetin, thiocarbanilide, &c. Other materials such as synthetic recins, natural resins, high-boiling solvents, pigments, and fillers may be included in the compositions. The cellulose derivatives may be one or more cellulose esters such as cellulose nitrate, acetate, formate, propionate, or butyrate, or cellulose ethers such as methyl, ethyl, or benzyl cellulose. The synthetic resin may be one of the phenol-aldehyde type prepared in the presence of an acid catalyst, or of the phenol-ketone type, to which may or may not be added a natural resin such as dammar, Kauri, manilla, pontianak, sandarac, copals. &c., or ester gums. High-boiling solvents suitable for use as ethyl lactate, diacetone alcohol, tetrachlorethane, and benzyl alcohol. The volatile solvents may be one or more of alcohol, acetone, benzene or ethylene dichloride. Examples are given.
