titleOfInvention | Improved process for the production of refined hydrocarbon oils and the like |
abstract | 300,900. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Nov. 19, 1927, [Convention date]. Mineral and tar oils, purifying.-Crude oils are freed from sulphur impurities &c. by passing them with hydrogen at about 300‹ C. and 10 atmospheres pressure over catalysts immune from poisoning by sulphur in such a manner that no appreciable formation of low boiling or gaseous hydrocarbons occurs. Suitable catalysts are those specified in Specifications 247,582, 247,583, 247,584, 251,264, [all in Class 32, Distilling &c.], 257,256; 258,272, 272,829, 272,830, 272,831, 275,663, 275,664, 275,670, 276,001, 285,923, 286,678, 286,679, 286,680, and 286,681, [all in Class 32. Distilling &c.] and particularly elements of the sixth group of the periodic system and cobalt and its compounds. The process is particularly suitable for refining crude lubricating oils and obtaining oils for Diesel engines. Crude benzine obtained by the destructive hydrogenation of brown coals is passed at 200 atmospheres pressure and 375‹ C. over a catalyst consisting of molybdenum trioxide and zinc oxide made into a paste with magnesia. A product is obtained containing under 0.5 per cent of sulphur. A mixture of molybdenum sulphide and molybdic acid may also be used as catalyst, and also a mixture of tungstic acid and magnesia. Specifications 249,309, 257,912, 258,576, 268,774; 272,194, 293,719, 300,703, 307,946, and 311,251, [all in Class 32, Distilling &c.], also are referred to. |
