Emulsions, making.-Sulphonated mineral oils obtained bv a process involving a pretreatment with liquid sulphur dioxide, or other substance having a similar solvent action upon the aromatic constituents prior to sulphonation by means of sulphuric acid or oleum are used as emulsifying and stabilizing agents in the preparation of aqueous dispersions of mineral oils, vegetable oils, tar, asphalt, paraffin sulphur and rubber and other substances. The sulphonation may be effected accoding to the process of Specification 291,393, the excess of acid being completely removed.
