titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to lampshades |
abstract | 294,722. Line, T. May 10, 1927. Drawings to Specification. Shades.-A decorative and protective binding for lampshades comprises a composition, cement, or plaster, made from any suitable base such as cement, resin, milk, celluloid, rubber, whitening, plaster of paris, papier-mache, or pulp, so as to be reasonably strong, slightly elastic, fireproof, and not cracked by heat. The composition is applied to the edges, and to the outside face, the inside face, or both faces of the shade, so as to conceal the constructional work, and it may also form the means of connecting the material of the shade to the framework. It may be applied in a plastic condition by smearing it on by hand, tool, or machine, by casting it on by means of moulds, or by dipping the shade one or more times in a solution of the composition. Alternatively the composition may be moulded, cast, or machined into any desired shape and then be secured to the shade in long or short sections. It may be secured in position by its own adhesive action, or a separate adhesive or other, preferably invisible, securing means may be employed. The binding may be left in its natural colour or it may be gilded, painted, or otherwise coloured. Numerous forms of the binding and methods of securing it to the shade are illustrated in the Specification. |
