titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to electric arc lamps for therapeutic and other purposes
abstract 291,927. Baron, C. E., and Myers, R. P. April 14, 1927. Arc lamps.-In an arc lamp, particularly for sun-ray treatment, and of the type wherein the electrodes are operated by the movement of a metal tube 7 under the action of a heating coil 10 surrounding the tube, the tube is directly connected to one end of a pivoted lever t, the other end of which carries rods x to which are attached the clutches y operating the upper electrodes k. The lamp comprises two arcs connected in series with one another and the heating coil. A base-plate a carries on columns b a top plate c fitted with the lamp terminals d, e. The lower tungsten electrodes h, i are mounted in holders g secured to the base-plate by rods f. The upper carbon electrodes are carried by holders l, m sliding in tubular guides n, o and pass through lower supporting guides q, r. The lower end of the brass tube 7 abuts a screw 9 fitted to a base 5 rigidly secured to the base a by rods 4, and the upper end is rigidly secured to a member 6 secured to the forked end of the lever t. The lever t is pivoted in a bracket z mounted on the plate c and passes through a guide 11 fitted with an adjustable stop 12. A device which stops the lamp after a predetermined consumption of the electrodes and conseqnently a predetermined time comprises a stop 18 mounted on the guide n and operated through bevel gearing 15, 16 and a screwed spindle 17 by a shaft 14 fitted with a dial.
