titleOfInvention The manufacture of new triphenyl methane dyestuffs
abstract 291,887. Carpmael, W., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). March 11, 1927. Triarylmethane dyes are obtained by condensing two molecules of an aromatic o-oxycarboxylic acid with one molecule of 4-benzylamino-3- sulphobenzaldehyde or a salt theneof and oxidizing the resulting leuco compound. According to an example, 2 mols. of o-cresotinic acid are condensed with 4-benzylamino-3-suphobenzaldehyde. The dyestuff obtained by oxidation dyes wool a clear violet when after chromed. 4-Benzylamino - 3 - sulphobenzaldehyde is obtained according to the process of Specification 17135/98 by condensing benzyl-o-sulphanilic acid, 4-tolylhydroxylamine-2-sulphonic acid and formaldehyde and saponifying the resulting benzylidine compound.
