titleOfInvention | Improvements in the manufacture of halogenated alcohols |
abstract | 286,797. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges., and Callsen, J. Dec. 13, 1926. Addition to 235,584. Halogenated alcohols. - The primary alcohol employed as solvent in the process of the parent Specification is replaced by a secondary alcohol. According to the example, a solution of bromal in isopropyl alcohol is heated with aluminium ethylate, whilst hydrogen is continuously passed through; after distilling off the alcohol and acidifying, tribromoethyl alcohol separates out. Chloral may be similarly treated. The passage of hydrogen mav be omitted, though the use of some inert gas is advantageous. |
