279,784. Chemische Fabrik - vorm. Sandoz. Oct. 29, 1926, [Convention date]. Mercerizing.-By the addition of a small quantity (1-2 per cent of the weight of the lye), of a mixture of phenols (88-98 per cent.), and hydrogenized aromatic substances (2-12 per cent) to mercerizing liquors, the action of the alkali on natural and artificial cellulose fibres is accelerated and made more uniform and the treated fabric can be dyed in more even shades than heretofore. Ordinary phenol, cresols, and their mixtures and also the higher homologues may be used, together with the products of hydrogenization of naphthalene, naphthols, and phenols, such as tetrahydro, and decahydro-naphthalene, hydrogenized naphthols, cyclohexanols, methylcyclohexanols, and mixtures of these substances. |
