titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to coloured or diffusing coating for incandescent lamps and similar articles
abstract 277,695. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Pipkin, M.). Sept. 20, 1926, [Convention date]. Bulbs. - Diffusing or coloured lamp bulbs are produced by etching or frosting the inside surfaces thereof, e.g. by the process described in Specifications 228,907 and 254,316, [both in Class 93, Ornamenting], and then applying a diffusing or colouring medium to the etched surface, which holds it without an additional binding medium. To apply the medium, a quantity of powder may be shaken or applied by a brush inside the bulb or a solution or liquid suspension of the medium ,may be sprayed into the bulb. To perform the last mentioned operation, the liquid may be forced from a tank 17 by compressed air from a pipe 21 and issue from a, pipe 20 into the inverted bulb 19, the surplus liquid draining back through a funnel 22 into the tank. The medium used may comprise metallic oxides, sulphides, silicates, &c., or compounds that can be dissociated by heat to form a substance having the desired colour, e.g. ferric or chromic chlorides or hydroxides.
